webcasting ssa2211
'Ultimately, who we choose to remember or forget is defined by our present, who we are at present and where we want to be in the future. If that person has no place in your present or is irrelevant in your future you will forget that person.' guess what? this is not a statement by my Lit professor.. it is by my *surprise surprise* History prof hahahaha more accurately my SSA2211 lecturer.but that is quite untrue actually because some of us do choose to remember the things or the person even though it/she/he has no place in our presents or no relevance in our futures. and i accrue that to the value of sentimentality that is very much ingrained in most of us. we choose not to forget because that particular incident/person has left an indelible mark in our lives, we choose not to forget because it is a pity not being able to be able to remember the many memories linked with that circumstance/person. isn't it?
different people have different opinions about this. some feel that forgetting is letting go and moving on in life as if that something or that someone had never appeared or existed; and that remembrance is just thick-skinned-persistant holding on which is often looked upon as irritating and tiresome. some think that forgetting is just running away and that remembrance is facing the music. some feel they cannot forget; some feel they can never remember.
i don't exactly know which side i'm on. i just have a whole bunch of questions that i think i may never get answered.
do we talk about 'the courage to forget'? or does 'the courage to remember' make more sense? what will happen if one day the memories i accummulated over the past 19 years of my life are completely erased? would i be a different person? how would i live my life?
why have we chosen to forget some? and remember others?
i can go on and on asking questions... hahaha
oh man.. no wonder im no good at making good arguments or writing good argumentative essays cos i can't make up my mind:\
when has webcasting history modules become so interesting (at least to me)? haha:p i guess it's true when you say i should look beyond the boring exterior of things.

I think, forgetting is impossible, if the impact on you has been great, forgetting is impossible...
hmm on the contrary i feel that forgetting is a choice.. sometimes it is really difficult because of the circumstances but it is definitely not impossible babe.. little by little it can be fragmented, broken down and gradually 'forgetting' will kick in..
How happy is the blameless vestal's lot
